Today's rant is on welfare. Specifically, the government program used to ostensibly support the helpless. Of course, we know that is not what it is. It is a way to buy votes with other's money while assuaging the consciences of the wealthy do-gooder. But, let's take a look anyway.

Who are the greatest number of folks living on the dole? They are healthy folks that have chosen, for the most part to have children with men they absolutely knew would not support their own progeny. And, to make matters worse, they can collect more money for each child they produce. I am not talking about the straight out fraudulent welfare recipients here, just those that are "legitimately" on the dole).

Now, lets look at what we call a desirable familu unit. We have a strong, dedicated father figure who feeds, clothes and corrects his brood. We have the dedicaated mother who cares for and corrects her brood. We have the brood who look up to their mother and father and learn to emulate them. Work hard, keep your word and stand up to your responsibilities. Then the brood grows up and has their own broods and continues the tradition. Over a long period of time, a culture is developed that is self perpetuating and self supporting.

With the current programs what do we get? A woman has kids that she cannot support and has no desire to try. The male of the species has absolutely no responsibility at all. He can lay up with the women and drink all day if he so chooses. The women will use their welfare money to feed and care for the deadbeat man or get a beating. The kids grow up believing the school is responsible for breakfast and lunch. Supper is a microhot bought with foodstamps or WIC. The children learn that nothing at all is required of them except perpetuating the function of breathing. These kids grow up and make another, even more useless generation. Since we have more and more of these deadbeats being produced, the burden on society increases.

What are the economic pressures we are developing with this scenario? First, since more kids on welfare means more money, there is an economic advantage to having more of them. Since day care is provided and food and housing is provided, there is little pressure to limit family size. second, the productive have no advantage to producing large numbers of kids because of the expense. The productive therefore tend to have smaller families. With an increase over the generations of the non-productive and a decrease in the numbers of the productive, the balance swings in favor of the non-productive. Who will feed thse folks when they outnumber the productive?

Also, don't you find it a little condescending and holier-than-thou to state these folks on the dole can't support themselves? What, are you saying these people are too stupid to take care of themselves? Surely you are not.

It is immoral to steal from the productive to buy votes from those who chose to lay on their collective asses and beg. It is even more immoral to stand in front of folks and rationalize this theft and call it moral. Our standards must be improved or we will cease to exist as a nation and/or culture.

Amen, Brother Nappy. I'm sure you've seen the film "Idiocracy," but just in case you haven't, or for a reminder, here's a clip:
