Madder than an old wet hen

This has been a tedious and vexing day. Linda and I were planning to leave this morning for another extended stay on the road. As usual, there were a bunch of things that weren't finished so, we were harried. Then, things started breaking down.

First, I had yet to install my mother-in-law's new computer. No problem, right? RIGHT!!!! Oops!! I got it all hooked up and the most important stuff transferred to a thumb drive so she could access/move it at her leisure. No problem. And..... AOL is on every computer made right from the factory, right? WRONG!!!! No chance. Well, we have had at least a dozen of the stupid things sent to us in the last few months. We have one around here somewhere, right? WRONG!!! So, I will just call around town and find a freeby disk and we are in business. I called WalMart and spoke to the lady in electronics. I asked if they had an AOL disk. She left the phone for a few moments (I presumed to look and make sure they had it) and returned with an affirmative answer. There is joy in Mudville! So, after calling dispatch and ascertaining we had no load as yet, I drove the 15 miles to Navasota WalMart and entered to get my disk. My non-existent disk. That's right. they no got. I lost my sense of humor pretty quick. The lady I had talked to tried to palm off a Netzero disk on me. After all, they are all the same. "No, lady, my mother in law has an account with AOL and you cannot access AOL with a Netzero disk."

Well, I found some other stuff to buy while there and got some cash from the ATM while I was there. Not a complete waste of time and gas.

So, I go to install a 12 volt splitter in the Kenworth. No bolts that will fit. Dig more. Still no bolts. I drive to Anderson and buy some bolts that will fit. Get home and the bolts have miraculously shrunk so as to be too short. GRRRRRR!!!! Drill the holes out a bit and voila' we have success.

I went to put some salad in gallon ziploc bags and...yes, you guessed it-- no gallon bags in the house. The salad is in quart bags and is in the truck.

Called the rocket scientists in dispatch and asked where my trailer and load are and they haven't a clue. I had told them last week we would be ready to go today. Several times. I also reminded them that THEY had sent another driver to pick up my trailer and, therefore, I no longer had a trailer in which to haul a load. They assured me they would have both a trailer and a load for us today. They didn't and don't.

So, tomorrow we will drive to Houston, to the Macy's distribution center where there is supposed to be a trailer empty and ready for us. Here is hoping.

I normally am able to keep my cool pretty well. Today, such was not the case. I have been madder than a wet hen most of the day. I am taking my better half and my mother-in-law to Navasota this evening to dinner if it hairlips the pope.

Tomorrow will be a better day. It better be or I am liable to be on the evening news!
